Renault Duster Overview
What sets it apart from other SUVs is the robust stance. The aggression is visible on the front profile and it does lend a manly stance to the SUV. Thankfully, the muscularity hasn’t lost over the last couple of updates. Quickly going through what has changed in the latest version, the SUV gets tweaked head lamps, revised bumper up front and a redesigned dual winged radiator grille. Getting back to the design, Duster wears a macho design, face gets a black honey-comb backdrop ornate by thick split up chrome grille meeting the large head lamps. Lower bumper features a silver skid plate, black cladding and small rounded fog lamps enclosed in black housing. Wheel arches are notable and wheels are meaty but the gap between both looks awkward. Flanks feature a side stepper, prominent character lines, ORVMs and alloy wheels. Rear gets skid plate, single exhaust, chrome garnish on the boot lid and suave tail lamps. Renault Duster Style
Renault has retained the exterior design language of the previous Duster model, and the new Duster does not get any exterior changes. It features nicely carved out wheel arches with stylish steel or alloy wheels, while the AWD version gets stunning gun metal grey alloy wheels. It offers chrome or black door handles and ORVMs depending on variants, large windscreen, defogger, chrome garnished huge tailgate, dual color bumpers, chrome satin skid plate, a large chrome grille and stylized large headlights.”boot and fuel lid as with remote and adjustable headrest as no and system issue is there.
Renault Duster Space
The interior too is familiar but the upgrades and changes made do go a long way in making it a lot more user friendly. For starters the ridiculous ORVM adjustment switch is no longer below the handbrake and has now found a new position on the driver’s side. There are also a set of new AC vents which get a lovely contrast surround option on a few select variants. The new centre console is smart and not overdone in any way.The Duster also gets climate control now but the touchscreen infotainment system is pretty much similar to what we got earlier. That said, the screen position has been moved slightly lower than before making it difficult to read the map at a quick glance or do simple acts like playing a new song or choosing another radio station. The quality of the plastics too have improved over the early cars but there are still niggles on certain panels that continue to persist. Other features include cruise control, a reversing camera with parking sensors and GPS navigation which comes as standard on the top of the line variant.
Although Renault has skipped on the leather seat option, the fabric seats do offer a sense of richness with its dual textured. Again, as with the accents on the dashboard, certain variants like the AWD get unique fabrics and colors that do look a lot better. That said, the issue with the driver’s side seat, which tends to rock back and forth when put on its lowest setting still exists as it did on the original Duster and that, in our opinion is frankly unacceptable.Rear seats are comfortable but do not have a 60/40 folding split. Legspace seems to have improved over the earlier car due to a scooped out front seat and the omission of the rear AC vents. That said, in a market like India, we would have much rather preferred a rear AC system instead of extra few centimeters of legspace.
Renault Duster Engine
The quality and able SUV’s petrol version is equipped with a 1.5 litre 4 cylinder DOHC petrol engine of 1498 cc displacement. The petrol engine produces a max power of 104.5 bhp at 5600 rpm and a peak torque of 142 Nm at 4000 rpm. This engine comes paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT. On the other hand, the diesel version is powered by a 1.5-litre dCi engine of 1461 cc displacement and is offered in two states of tune – a 83.8 bhp of power at 3750 rpm with a peak torque of 200 Nm at 1750 rpm, and a 108.4 bhp of power at 4000 rpm with 245 Nm of torque at 1750 rpm. The tuned down diesel engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, whereas the 108.4 bhp powered engine is offered with a 6-speed manual and an AMT, while off-road lovers can also opt for an AWD setup.
Unlike some of the counterparts, Duster uses a modern monocoque shell construction for chassis which makes it light and efficient. The Duster SUV’s 85 PS diesel version offers the fuel efficiency of up to 19.87 Kmpl, while the 110 PS version offers a mileage of around 19.64 Kmpl. On the other hand, the petrol version of the SUV delivers the fuel efficiency of up to 13.05 Kmpl. While the Diesel variant (110PS) that comes equipped with an AWD (All Wheel Drive) transmission, promises to offer the most impressive fuel efficiency of 19.72kmpl.
